Ministry of Health: HPV vaccination mandatory from next year

Starting next year, vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) should become mandatory in Croatia, following legal changes planned for the second quarter of this year, the Ministry of Health has learned. This would see Croatia join several countries that have already decided to take such a step, with a clear goal: to eradicate cervical cancer in the long term, a disease that is now almost completely preventable. The announcement comes at a time when the National Day and Week of the Fight Against Cervical Cancer – Mimosa Day, which was established by the Croatian Parliament back in 2011, is being celebrated. As the Director of the Health Protection Directorate of the Ministry of Health, Ivana Portolan Pajić, points out, significant progress has been made in the past fifteen years, primarily in raising awareness of the importance of prevention, early detection of the disease and vaccination against HPV.
